of the International Visual Arts Contest ​​"The music and dances of my people"

 

The International Visual Arts Contest ​​"The music and dances of my people" is organized by the Municipality of Montana, Bulgaria. It is an event within the International Festival of Wind Orchestras, dedicated to the famous Bulgarian composer Diko Iliev. The visual arts contest is held every even year. Each separate edition of the contest has a different subject. The thematic focus is defined by the organizers as an additional subtitle to the already popular title of the contest ​​"The music and dances of my people". The topic in 2024 is "Traditional customs, rites and rituals of my people".

 

Children between 7 to 15 years old may participate in the visual arts contest. They will be divided into 2 age groups:

- 1st age group: 7 - 11 years;

- 2nd age group: 12 - 15 years.

Each participant may present no more than 3 artworks. The pictures of children in the first age group should be with dimensions of 25 x 35 cm, and the pictures of the participants in the second age group - 35 x 50 cm. The artworks of plastic and applied arts should be with a maximal size of 100 cm. There are no restrictions regarding the technique and genre of the artworks.

The professional jury of 5 members, appointed by the organizers, will evaluate the artworks. The decisions of the jury are definitive and irrevocable.

 

The jury will bear mainly the following criteria in mind when grading:

- idea, concept, relevant to the subject of the contest;

- originality and creativity in the approach to the subject of the contest;

- aesthetic qualities of the art work;

- self-dependence in the process of creation;

 

The contest consists of two stages:

Online stage of the contest.

The participants must send a quality digital photo of their artwork in a jpg format (300 dpi, 3-6 MB) with the file name written in the alphabet to e-mail: art.contest.montana@gmail.com. This should be done in the following format: Country.Author’s name.Age.jpg. The photo must be accompanied by a completed application form (signed and scanned), containing the name, surname and family name of the participant, age, title of the work, city/village, country, school/extracurricular educational institution, teacher, contact phone number of teacher or parent of the participant who must sign the application form for participant. The subject of the email should contain the following description: International Visual Arts Contest ​​"The music and dances of my people". Within the text in the e-mail, the name of the participant, phone number and address should be written once more. Application forms which do not meet the above mentioned requirements will not be considered. The deadline for sending in artworks to e-mail: art.contest.montana@gmail.com is 1st April, 2024.

  • Digital photos will be published by the organizers on the competition’s social media page within 5 days of the artworks being processed, accompanied by the name and surname, age and country of the participant;
  • The jury will rank the 200 best artworks;
  • The jury’s ranking will be published on the website of the International Festival of Wind Orchestras “Diko Iliev” and the competition’s social networks;
  • The organizers will inform the winners of the first stage of the competition by messaging them by email no later than 5 days after the jury’s decision.

  • The authors, whose works are among the 200 selected by the jury, must send their originals to the postal address of the Municipality of Montana:

The deadline to do so is 15 April, 2024. The date of shipping will be proven by a post stamp. Please do not declare a value of the shipment, but write on the envelope “No commercial value”.

  • The art works must be accompanied by a completed application form (in accordance to the template. It should be carefully attached to the back of the artwork. A declaration of consent from a parent is also necessary
  • The jury meeting will be held 2 months after the deadline for submitting the drawings. The jury evaluates the originals of the received works and determines the following awards for each of the age groups:


- 1st place - statuette of the festival, certificate of achievement and a gift;

- 2nd place - certificate of achievement and a gift;

- 3rd place - certificate of achievement and a gift.

The jury will determine 10 collective prizes for institutions (schools, extracurricular institutions, art clubs,etc.) - a diploma for complex attendance.

The jury is not obliged to determine all prizes. At each of the places - first, second and third, the jury rankes two participants - one from Bulgaria and one from abroad. Depending on the number and quality of the received art works, the jury determines a quota of participants, which will receive incentive prizes - a diploma for successful participation.

The awards of the participants in the International Visual Arts Contest ​​"The music and dances of my people" will be given during the opening ceremony of the International Festival of Wind Orchestras “Diko Iliev” on 31st May, 2024. In the event that the children cannot attend the award ceremony, their prize will be sent to the address written on the application form. The works of the distinguished children will be given to the Art Gallery (Fine Arts Museum)“Kiril Petrov” and they will become a part of the fund in the “Children's Art” department.

The works of the participants ranked in the first three places and the winners of incentive prizes will be shown at an exhibition in the Art Gallery "Kutlovitsa" which is a part of the Association of Visual Artists "Tenets" - Montana.

The children's works that which have arrived after the jury meeting, but were sent within the deadline, will remain for ranking in the next edition of the art contest.

The organizers do not return works to the authors.

The organizers reserve the right to photograph and publish photos of the works, as well as the participants, in order to promote the competition in different communication channels and in the media for advertising, cataloging and others.
